Diamond Care, Cleaning, Storing Diamond Jewelry

Diamonds are the hardest substance on earth. They are uniquely resistant to damage by heat or scratching, and can be cut or polished only by another diamond — but an extremely hard blow to the girdle can cause a diamond to chip. A solution of one part ammonia and six parts water can be used to clean diamond jewelry at home. We recommend that all diamond jewelry is stored individually in soft cloth pouches when not being worn to prevent the diamond or diamonds from scratching or dulling other jewelry. More information

Gold Investment Advice, Guide

Thursday, December 20, 2007

This is one of the most obvious pieces of advice we give. But we usually add "within reason". Generally the cheapest ways to buy gold are bars, krugerrands or sovereigns. Of these three options, gold bars can usually be bought for the lowest percentage premium over gold, followed by krugerrands then gold sovereigns. Most other gold coins are more expensive, and therefore better avoided, at least by serious gold investors. You might think therefore that we would advise gold bars, krugerrands and gold sovereigns as the best gold investments, in that order.

Silver Jewelry Ultrasonic Cleaning Tips

Wednesday, December 12, 2007

Using an ultrasonic jewelry cleaner is one of the best methods of cleaning silver jewelry. These cleaners are based on the concept that when very high frequency sound travels through water, it creates its own path, which results in microscopic bubbles shooting out at a high pressure inside the water. When these bubbles burst due to the pressure put on them by the surrounding water, then very tiny and very powerful jet streams are formed. Using an ultrasonic cleaner is one of the easiest and fastest methods of getting your jaded jewelry to shine just like new.

Jewelry Engagement Rings Fact, History

Wednesday, December 5, 2007

Engagement rings were set with a single diamond in its natural crystalline form. Others had multiple diamonds set in rosettes, letters, or fleur-de-lys. Little love messages, or posies, were often inscribed inside the rings. Popular sixteenth and seventeenth century wedding ring styles included the gimmel ring, made of two hoops that slid together into one ring when shut; and the fede ring (Italian for "faith'), consisting of two clasped hands, sometimes holding a rose-cut diamond heart. The antique engagement rings available today are primarily those from the first half of the twentieth century. White gold and platinum filigree rings were popular from the turn of the century through the twenties; the intricate, lace-like detail loved by Edwardian era ladies still holds a special appeal for women today. Diamond Care & Diamond Cleaning Tips

Monday, December 3, 2007

Diamonds act as natural magnets to oil and grease, it is quite difficult to clean them. The best way to clean diamonds is to soak them overnight in an ammonia-based cleaner like the household cleaner once or twice every week. Remove the diamonds from the cleaner liquid in the morning and brush them with a clean, soft toothbrush to remove all the residual dirt. Brush the back of the diamond, as it has maximum deposits of dirt and oil. You can also use ultrasonic cleaners to clean diamonds and get rid of all the dirt coating. Avoid wearing diamonds when you are cleaning around the house. Use protective gloves and avoid harsh chemical based cleaners. Do not wear diamonds while you are in hot tubs or swimming pools as the chlorine levels are high. More information

Diamond Ring Setting Styles - Channel, Prong, Bezel, Tension

Several different setting styles are used for diamond rings. Some of the major setting styles for diamonds and other precious gemstones in rings: Channel Setting: In a ring with a channel setting, one or more diamonds are inset into a channel and held in place by a small lip on either edge. Prong Setting: Also called a “claw setting,” a prong setting consists of a set of usually four or six metal prongs which protrude from the base of a ring and wrap slightly around the top edge of the diamond to hold it in place. Bezel setting: In a bezel setting, also referred to as a “rub-over” setting, the diamond is completely encircled by a band of metal which affixes it securely to the ring. Tension Setting: A tension setting is a unique diamond setting style in which the metal of the ring itself holds a diamond securely in place within an opening in the metal - More information

Diamond Care & Maintance - How to Repair?

Sunday, December 2, 2007

By properly caring for your diamond, you will ensure that your diamond is indeed forever.
First, you should take your diamond jewelry to a jeweler once a year. Have him check the mountings and prongs that hold your diamond in place. Have him make any needed repairs. This will prevent your diamond from falling out of its setting and becoming lost. Remove your diamond jewelry when doing physical work. Diamonds can be chipped and scratched easily. Also avoid allowing your diamond to come into contact with bleach or other household cleansers – this can damage or change the color of the settings and mountings, and it may even irreversibly change the color of the diamond! Titanium Jewelry Facts, Buying Guide, Clean & Care

Titanium is a great metal to use for jewelry because of its strength and greater scratch resistance compared to gold, silver and other metals. Pure titanium will not react to oils in the skin, sunlight and salt water. Not only this but titanium can be colored with a wide array of exotic colors where most other metals suitable for jewelry cannot. If you purchase a colored titanium ring it is a good choice to get a ring with the satin finish because it will help keep the ring looking great for a longer period of time. One problem with titanium rings is because of their strength they cannot be resized. Sometimes titanium can be stretched up in size, but not down. Make sure when you purchase a titanium ring you give the correct finger sizes to the jeweler. Clean titanium jewelry simply by using a soft cloth and warm soapy water. Never use strong detergents or chemicals. More information

How To Pick Titanium Jewelry? FAQ, Facts

Titanium jewelry is that it's strong. It's stronger than steel, and so is far superior to gold, silver and platinum in this respect. Salt water and cleaning compounds don't damage titanium. If you choose a simple style of titanium jewelry, it can be worn with almost any outfit to any occasion. Want to dress up a little black dress? Choose the sparkling contrast of titanium. Another good thing about titanium jewelry is that it's very individual. Unlike chunky gold bracelets which seem to be on every wrist nowadays, titanium is still the new kid on the block.
